Hands On Medical Massage:Healing hands for natural pain relief

Massage therapy is not a luxury reserved for those who have cash to burn. In fact, for many people, it’s what keeps their mind and their bodies going.

My name is Ethan Pariseau. I’m a licensed massage therapist (and a registered nurse) located in Jackson, Ohio. I specialize in helping individuals manage their pain (acute and chronic). Same-day appointments may be available.

I help you to hurt less, move better, sleep better and ease stress by providing hands-on assessment, massage, personalized treatment plans and education to improve your overall quality of life.

Tension headaches, neck, back, leg, and many more problems cause pain that can negatively affect our daily lives at work, as well as at home. Things that should be enjoyable or even just another activity become nearly, if not, unbearable.

Something may be able to be done about that pain using massage therapy to help reduce or, in some cases, relieve it altogether. It depends on the problem. But that’s what I’m here for, to help determine if massage therapy is an option for your pain management.

Modalities

“Modalities” is just a fancy word for the different ways or techniques used to get things done. Here’s a list of the different modalities I use to ease and relieve pain:

  • – Swedish massage (gentle gliding and kneading of the tissues)
  • – Deep tissue massage (not the painful type)
  • – Myofascial release (helps connective tissue release)
  • – Trigger point therapy (to release muscle knots)
  • – Range of motion body work (helps regain range of motion in joints)
  • – Passive stretching (I do the stretching for you)
  • – Active stretching (You do the stretching for yourself)
  • – Post isometric release technique (another form of stretching)
  • – Pin and stretch (helps to relax and lengthen the muscle)
  • – IASTM – Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (A.K.A. scraping or coining) (helps free adhesions between tissue layers)

Considerations

A treatment can either cover the full body or a specific area depending on what the patient’s needs are. The more areas needing treatment the more time that should be allotted for the appointment.

The type of treatment and the area(s) to be treated will determine if the patient needs to remove any clothing for the most effective techniques to be used.

Jewelry should be removed. Specifically, jewelry on any area that is to be treated. For example, if the back and neck are to be treated, please remove necklaces. Hand, wrist, or forearm treatment – remove rings and/or bracelets.

Please place cell phones on silent or turn them off during the treatment session.

Use the restroom prior to your treatment, if needed.

Please arrive on time. The scheduled appointment will still end at the time that was agreed upon. If the appointment was for 60 minutes and the patient arrives 15 minutes late, the treatment will still end within 45 minutes. This is to respect my time and the time of the next patient appointment.

Payment Information

I accept the following forms of payment: cash, credit card, debit card, and check. I am also able to accept some electronic payment methods (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, Facebook, etc).

Tips: I do not ask for tips. I do not mention tips. I do not expect tips of any kind.

Hands On Medical Massage does not bill insurance. I have tried it in the past but it did not work out. Sorry for the inconvenience. Private pay is the current option and appears to be the industry standard.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) linked to a debit card have worked for patients in the past.

Ohio does require sales tax of 7.25% for massage therapy unless the patient has a written prescription from a physician. This prescription is good for one year and will have to be renewed at that time.

Cancellation Policy: Because this practice relies on patients to attend their appointments which have been scheduled ahead of time, if the patient cannot come for their appointment they are expected to cancel more than 24 hours before their scheduled appointment to allow others to fill the appointment. If the patient cancels within 24 hours of the appointment 50% of the appointment fee will be charged for the late cancellation. If the patient cancels within an hour of the scheduled appointment or is a no-call/no-show then the full appointment fee will be charged.

Health & Safety Protocols

  • Some of the safety measures I have in place include:
    • Surfaces are cleaned with disinfectant before and after each patient appointment.
    • Each patient will have clean sheets, blanket, pillow, bolster, face cradle cover, etc.
    • All instruments used are cleaned following every patient (cupping sets, IASTM instruments, massage gun, T-bars used for trigger point therapy, etc.).
    • Hand sanitizer is available upon request.
    • An air purifier is used within the treatment office.
    • The massage therapist (myself) has been vaccinated against COVID-19 and Influenza.
    • If you are sick or have been exposed to others who are sick within a few days of your appointment, please reschedule.
    • I do not require face masks, however, you may wear one if you would prefer.

Privacy

Patient information, conversations and treatment-related information are protected by law. The office door and curtain remain closed during the treatment session. If undressing is required for treatment, I will leave the treatment room and close the curtains and door while the patient prepares and gets on the table for the treatment as well as when the pt gets off of the table and redresses. Patients will remain covered by a sheet and blanket, if applicable, at all times during the treatment.
